Optimizing your website for search engine ranking is one of the most important things you can do to increase organic traffic to your website. In this post, we will take a look at a few simple tips to show you how to find keywords for SEO with a few simple keyword research tips.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization which means that you have optimized each page of content on your website with specific keywords or key phrases to help your content to be found by search engines.
As simple as it may sound, with the number of competing websites growing every day, you have to be strategic about the keywords you use if you want to create a successful website for your blog or online business.
Google is constantly advancing their search algorithms to provide you with the best search experience possible.
The technology they are now using not only looks for the keywords and key phrases you optimize within your content, but they measure it against how long users stay on your site.
What does that mean exactly?
When you search for a specific keyword or key phrase on Google and are presented with a list of websites that match, Google is tracking the amount of time you spend on each page you click on.
If you click on a link and then click back to the main search page within a few seconds, Google now thinks that maybe the content on that page was not such a good match and will adjust your ranking.
However, if you were to spend more time on a page, Google now knows that the content was a great match for what you searched for and will rank the page higher.
So it’s not just about throwing a bunch of keywords on your page and hoping something works, you need to make sure you select keywords and key phrases that are closely related to the content you are providing.
The goal is not just to get a visitor to your site, but to keep them there as long as possible.
How to create easy to optimize content
There are many different ways to optimize your website content, but I like to do my keyword research first and then build my content around the key phrases I have selected.
This helps me to write content with the key phrase in mind and makes it easier to include the keywords throughout my content without having to go back and spend too much time editing after it’s written.
With my topic in mind, the first thing I do is a bit of simple research to help me find the right keywords and key phrases for my content.
How to find keywords for SEO
There are a million ways (or so it seems) to do keyword research these days. But I promised to show you the simple way to find keywords and key phrases for your website. Here are 3 simple steps to help you learn how to do keyword research.
1. Open a private or incognito window in your browser and open Google.com
When you search for things in your browser on Google, your search history is tracked and Google tries to get better at understanding the types of content that you look for the most.
By opening a private or incognito window, you will get cleaner search results, not ones tailored to your search history.
2. Start typing your content topic into the search bar
Notice that when you begin typing, Google will begin to make suggestions based on the keywords you enter. When you see a suggestion with a word in bold, Google is telling you that word is a popular keyword among searchers.
When you see a phrase that fits the content you want to write, click on it to select it. Now you will see the top results for your search.
To get additional ideas for key phrases you may want to optimize for, click inside the search bar again and now Google will suggest other popular search terms that may be related to your content topic.
You will most likely find phrases that are a better fit for the content you plan to create.
3. Make a list of keywords and key phrases that you could write content for
Once you begin searching for ideas this way, you may find other topics that are closely related that you could create additional content around.
Keep a list of your favorite search results and use them to create future content.
How to find keywords for SEO on Pinterest
If you use Pinterest to pin your blog content then you know how important it is to optimize your pins with keywords to help your pins get more visibility.
You can use the Pinterest search bar in the same way you use Google search to find popular keywords on Pinterest.
Don’t forget to keep a list of the keywords and phrases that are closely related to the content you are creating for quick and easy access.
Hint: This also works well on Amazon if you happen to sell products in their marketplace. Optimize your content with the suggestions given by the search bar.
Finding keywords for SEO is simple when you know where to look
It just takes a little time and patience to find the best search terms for your content.
The best place to start is to use the suggestions given by the search bar to help you begin crafting a keyword strategy that works best for your website.
